Working Through Domestic Violence Training: Programs

WHAT IS WORKING THROUGH DOMESTIC VIOLENCE TRAINING?

This FREE training program provides education on the effects of domestic violence on the workplace and what can be done to support employees who are experiencing these challenges.

The Working Through Domestic Violence program will also provide support to employers on the West Coast of Newfoundland & Labrador who are looking to implement domestic violence policies & procedures to make their workplaces safer and more equitable for all.

We can offer one-on-one training opportunities for employers, virtual options, and other adapted forms of training to fit your business needs.

Our organization will cover all travel-related expenses for businesses outside of the Channel-Port aux Basques region.

This program was developed using research conducted by the St. John's Status of Women Council, as well as resources from Western University

WHAT TO EXPECT

This training program is a 2.5 hour workshop. The objectives of this workshop are to:

  • Identify recent changes to NL’s Occupational Health and Safety Standards, Landlord and Tenancies Act and Labour Standards Act (Family Violence Leave)

  • Share the most relevant research on the impact of Domestic Violence (DV) on NL workplaces

  • Share information needed to support DV at Work issues locally

  • Learn to identify DV warning signs & risk factors and ways to talk about these with survivors in workplaces

  • Improve the capacity of organizations and businesses to develop DV policies and reduce isolation for survivors

HOW WE CAN HELP YOU

Increased knowledge of domestic violence issues will help keep your workplace and employees safe.

Domestic Violence supports and policies reduce the financial effects of domestic violence on your workplace. The direct impacts of domestic violence is estimated to cost Canadian employers about $100 million a year. This amount is due to absenteeism, tardiness, lowered productivity, and increased administrative costs resulting from turnover.

This training will also assist your workplace in complying with new Provincial Occupation Health & Safety requirements pertaining to domestic violence.

“Sending a high-profile and authoritative message in workplaces that domestic violence is an important problem, one which all segments of society (including employers) are prepared to take action against supports the broader change in attitudes and expectations that will be essential for reducing domestic violence and ending it altogether.”
